Thinking of Moving to Andalucía? Meet Andrew at Cortijo Fruitful Hills
🏡 Introducing your host: Andrew
If you’re thinking about moving to Andalucía, buying a campo property, or simply curious about what really goes on behind the scenes, Andrew is very much your kind of ally.
Andrew has a long-standing passion for property development and regeneration, shaped across the UK and Europe. His experience ranges from award-winning holiday accommodation and long-term rental properties to complex renovation projects — including work on a historic medieval property in Gabian, in the south of France, set within the old ramparts of the village.
Alongside short-stay hosting, Andrew has extensive experience managing long-term tenancies, with a strong focus on ensuring homes are safe, well-maintained and genuinely healthy places to live — dealing with the realities of upkeep, tenant needs and the quiet, ongoing responsibilities that come with good stewardship.
He has a particular affection for characterful historic properties, including a Victorian riverside house in York and a Georgian hunting lodge in the North York Moors National Park. Caring for buildings like these has deepened his understanding of how to balance heritage, practicality and modern living — and of the patience, judgement and skill such properties demand.
Before relocating to Spain, Andrew co-developed and continues to host Fern House Grassington, a 5-star-rated holiday property in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, consistently recognised on VRBO, TripAdvisor, and Airbnb. Grassington is a popular market town and well-known filming location, most famously associated with All Creatures Great and Small.
Alongside this, Andrew has built a broad professional background as a project manager, entrepreneur and former Chartered Accountant, bringing strong financial and structural insight to every project he takes on.
His experience also includes substantial community development work in the UK. In Stainforth, Yorkshire, Andrew helped secure over £3 million in funding for regeneration projects, including a new community centre with carefully landscaped grounds featuring trees, shrubs, ground cover, wildflower and spring-bulb areas, as well as new children’s play facilities. He also helped establish drug and alcohol rehabilitation and healthy living projects in partnership with the local Primary Care Trust — work that required navigating funding systems, land use, and long-term sustainability.
Andrew was also Project Manager for the £2 million redevelopment of a disused airfield site in the UK, enabling the relocation of Europe’s leading wholesaler, exporter and restorer of antique furniture — a complex project involving planning, infrastructure, logistics and commercial realities.
At Cortijo Fruitful Hills (CFH), Andrew brings this experience directly into how the land is cared for. He has a deep passion for gardening and has been steadily incorporating sustainability and permaculture principles into the property. Thoughtful planting, soil regeneration, water-wise design and working with the natural contours of the hillside have significantly increased the nature-rich vibrancy of CFH — shaping a place where guests can slow down, think clearly, and experience what day-to-day life here actually feels like.
He also loves creating beautiful, functional spaces. Since arriving at CFH, Andrew has developed a real aptitude for traditional stonework, hand-building stone walls and crafting handmade stone steps that now form part of the landscape — practical, durable features that sit naturally within the land.
Andrew is happy to share hard-earned, practical wisdom with guests — particularly those exploring a longer-term move, researching rural properties, or considering purchasing in the area. From understanding renovation realities to navigating local professionals, trades and community networks, his knowledge is rooted in lived experience rather than theory.
Staying at CFH offers more than a place to rest — it’s a chance to tap into inside knowledge, local contacts, and honest conversations about what it really means to build a life here.
Andrew is also a member of the Quiet Garden Trust, reflecting his long-standing interest in gardens as places of calm, reflection and restoration, and an active member of The Inland Networking and Support Group – Costa del Sol, connecting regularly with local business owners and professionals across the region.
Whether you’re visiting, researching, or quietly planning your next chapter, Andrew brings clarity, generosity and a steady hand — and is never happier than when there’s a project on the go.
